How I Started Losing Weight While Working Full-Time (and What Actually Helped)

Let’s be real — trying to lose weight while working a full-time job can feel like running a marathon in heels. You wake up early, juggle a million tasks, barely have time to breathe... and somewhere in there, you're supposed to meal prep, drink green smoothies, and hit the gym?
Yeah, I’ve been there.
But after a few too many nights of crashing on the couch with takeout and wondering why my jeans felt tighter, I knew I had to change. Not overnight. Not drastically. Just... start somewhere. Here's what helped me — and some tools from Amazon that made things a whole lot easier.
🧠 Mindset First: Stop Trying to Be Perfect
I used to beat myself up for not doing enough. If I couldn’t work out for an hour, I’d skip it. If I had one cookie, I’d throw the whole day away. Sound familiar?
Once I let go of perfection and focused on just being consistent, things shifted. My new rule? Do what you can, when you can, and keep going.
🥗 Meal Prep (Even Just a Little) Saves You
Meal prepping sounded intimidating to me at first. But all I do now is cook up some protein, roast a tray of veggies, and portion them into containers. It saves so much time, money, and energy — especially when I get home exhausted and want to eat everything in sight.
What helped me:
👉 PrepNaturals 5 Pack 36 Oz Glass Meal Prep Containers
They stack well in the fridge, don’t leak, and help with portion control without thinking too hard.
🏃♀️ Workouts Don’t Have to Be Long
I don’t have an hour a day to work out. But I do have 15–20 minutes, and I make it count. Sometimes it’s a walk around the block after dinner, other times I follow a quick workout video in my living room.
What I love using:
👉 Fit Simplify Resistance Loop Exercise Bands
They’re great for glutes and arms, and I keep one set in my work bag in case I feel motivated on lunch break.
💧 Water, Girl. Water.
I used to snack when I was really just thirsty. Now I keep a water bottle with me all day and I aim to refill it 3–4 times.
My go-to:
👉 Hydro Flask Wide Mouth Water Bottle
Keeps it icy cold all day, which somehow makes drinking it feel like a treat.
📱 Track What You Want to Improve
I don’t count every calorie religiously, but tracking my steps and workouts gives me a little boost of accountability.
What keeps me moving:
👉 Fitbit Inspire 3
It's sleek, not bulky, and reminds me to move if I’ve been glued to my desk all day.
😴 Sleep Is Half the Battle
When I’m sleep-deprived, I crave junk food and feel too tired to work out. Prioritizing sleep made a huge difference in my energy and cravings.
What helps me unwind:
👉 Hatch Restore Sleep Assistant
It’s a sunrise alarm + sound machine + night light all in one. Total game changer for relaxing before bed.
🧘♀️ Stress Eats Calories
Stress eating used to be my downfall. Now, I journal or just stretch out on a yoga mat for 10 minutes. It clears my head and calms my cravings.
My yoga mat buddy:
👉 Gaiam Essentials Thick Yoga Mat
It’s soft on my knees and doesn’t slide around. I even take it outside when the weather’s nice.
💬 If You’re Still Reading, Here’s the Real Talk
Losing weight with a full-time job isn’t easy — but it’s possible. You don’t have to do everything perfectly. You just have to keep showing up for yourself, even when it’s hard.
Some weeks I nail it. Other weeks I don’t. But I always start again. And that’s what really matters.
You’ve got this. 💛
